Good morning. Just woke up. And WOW....it's cold! I don't typically associate Africa with cold, but it definitely is. I slept like a rock last night. My bed has some big fleece blankets and was rather cozy in the cold. Anyway, I thought I'd try to share some more pictures of the journey so far.
Here's the room we stayed in (well, I stayed in, but the others looked the same as well) the first night in Nairobi.
Driving along the road outside of Nairobi
Here's the Riff Valley (beyond the farms) and a dormant volcano. The Riff Valley is one of the few places visible from space I'm told.
This is the road leading back to the orphanage. It really is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I rode with Greg in another car behind the missionaries' van (in front there), and let me just say again, how impressive Greg was driving. Iimmediately adjusting to the right side of the road for a four hour trip...plus navigating all the holes, bumps, rocks, animals, and wandering people...he was the man. I think he loved it. 4 wheelin' in Africa.
Off to the orphanage. Hopefully, I can update with more pics and updates later.

Welcome to East Africa, I guess I should have warned you about how cold it can get. See you in a few days.

I'm guessing that should be Rift Valley, or the Great Rift Valley. Here are some links, with photos from space:

Apologies if my comment from earlier sounded picky; it wasn't meant to be. There are some references on the web to Riff Valley so maybe it is known by that name in some parts of the world. BTW, if you Google for "Riff Valley", jonathanbow.com is now on the first page of search results. :-)
Thanks for the great photos Jonathan. I'm enjoying reading about your journey.
